TITIKA Design Competition 2021|Crossing Cultural Differences with Hope and Art

TITIKA Design Competition 2021|Crossing Cultural Differences with Hope and Art

The Titika Design Challenge is a competition between fashion designers from Canada and China. When we initiated the competition a year ago, we faced several major challenges: a world in during pandemic and near economic collapse; and two countries with different languages and cultures.

However, there were also a few things that motivated us to start it. They’ve made the competition extra meaningful: a theme of "hope" that conveys universal optimism; and, most importantly, artistic creativity and design excellence that transcends cultural differences. With the joint planning of multiple fashion colleges and institutions across Canada and China, we received several submissions from leading design schools in both countries for six months. Among them, there were 12 excellent finalists.

Five winners were selected by a panel of professional judges from the Canadian fashion industry.

    1. Winner of the Best Creativity Award: Sheetal Mahar from Fanshawe College, Canada
    2. Winner of the Best Technology Award: Meng Li from George Brown College, Canada
    3.        Two runners up Zerui Yang from Minzu University of China and Ramak Dargahi from George Brown College, Canada
    4. And finally, the grand prize winner of the Titika Challenge: Sheila Zeferino "Hope is Power" from Seneca College, Canada.

In addition to congratulating the winners, we would like to express our gratitude to the professional judges for their great contributions to the competition.

Thanks to Elise Gasbarrino, Editor In Chief of Style Canada.
