TITIKAxME | Winter Motivation Tips with Adele Cavaliere

TITIKA Active reached out to our Fitness and Nutrition Expert Adele Cavaliere for something we could all use a little help with: Winter Motivation Tips! Read on below to see how you can fuel your workouts and ultimately feel your best. Baby its cold outside!  And, even for the fittest of people, following a fitness regime can be a challenge this time of year! The change of weather shouldn't be a time that your fitness plans hibernate—especially with all of those holiday treats around! With the right attitude and a mix of exercises, the colder weather can be an opportunity to rev-up your workouts, get creative and even rekindle your love of fitness! Are you ready to take advantage of the season’s natural power to boost your workout? Try these tips to guide your workout routine this season…  Fuel your workouts with healthy food. Fall in love with flavorful foods that are produced during the autumn season. This is the time of the year to enjoy honey, turmeric, ginger, squash, sweet potatoes, apples, pears, beets and pumpkin, and a ton of other foods loaded with the nutrients you need to maximize your productivity during your workout. Turmeric in particular has gotten a lot of attention lately. Its active ingredient is curcumin, a powerful antioxidant. I love putting a fresh piece of each in my morning smoothie, but you can also enjoy them in a warming cup of deliciously spiced tea! Here’s my favorite, super easy recipe: 2 cups of water ½ teaspoon ground ginger ½ teaspoon bone broth/protein ground turmeric Organic honey to taste Directions Bring 2 cups of water to a boil, and had ½ teaspoon each ground ginger and ground turmeric. Reduce to a simmer and let it be for 10-15 minutes. Strain, add honey to taste, and enjoy twice daily. Yields 2 servings. Try a Seasonal Detox. Try a season detox cleanse including fresh fall fruits and vegetables that will help keep your immune system healthy, ward off seasonal colds, and prepare your body for colder months. If you’re opting for a cleanse, include more gentle, low-impact aerobic exercises such as yoga, Barre, Pilates, jogging, walking and swimming to get the body moving and the lungs breathing deeply. Skip the sofa until you've completed your daily workout! Change from your work clothes directly into workout wear —when you get home. Can’t make it to the gym? No problem! Stock up on resistance bands or look up in-home workouts. Whether you follow a workout video or invest in a few pieces of fitness equipment or even just use your body weight for a killer workout, exercising at home can be a convenient (and fun!) solution to staying on track. Here’s a quick workout routine you can do from pretty much anywhere: — 15 squats with bands — 15 push-ups — 15 goblet squats with bands — 15 lying leg raises — 15 seconds of high knees Dress for success! With the right gear, it's almost never too frigid to work out. Because moisture on your skin evaporates and pulls much-needed heat from your body, the key is to dress so that you're protected but you don't get soaked with sweat. You’ll want some new clothes and/or shoes to help you get outside, or into the gym - this will help you look better while working out, but more importantly, it will provide you with the proper apparel to face the cold. Take up a winter sport. From skiing to skating, there are many great options that burn calories and put a whole new look on your cold-weather workout plans. By trying something new, you reignite your motivation for fitness, cold weather and all! Whether it's indoor soccer, a boot camp class or even skating lessons at a local arena participating in a regular activity is a fantastic way to stay accountable during the change of season. Goal Hunt! If you don’t have a set training goal, or have been slacking off with the one that you made, it’s time for a change. Whether you want to build muscle, put up better numbers or get faster, set a reasonable goal and make it as specific as possible.Once spring rolls around, you won’t have to start the process of working out again!  Get Motivated! Making the commitment to workout with someone, whether it’s a friend or personal trainer, often forces a different, increased level of effort in your training. If you’re exercising with someone else, that means you’ll have to keep to more of a set schedule (no more putting off the gym until it’s so late you decide to bag it), you’ll be motivating each other to reach farther limits and you’ll probably have a much better time getting fit than you’d have alone. TITIKAxME | Mariela Burkett

In honour of Hope Month TITIKA Active has partnered up with cancer survivor Mariela Burkett. The Hope collection is dedicated to spreading awareness on the mental and emotional toll cancer takes on those impacted. Mariela shares her story to inspire other women to be proactive and take control of their health!    My name is Mariela Burkett and I am a Coach, Personal Trainer, Fitness Professional and, Athlete. I have worked in the fitness industry 11+ years. I am a Cancer Survivor and my profession helped me Kick Cancer’s A$$! Fitness became a priority for me 13 years ago when I had reached my highest weight of 202lbs and my doctor mentioned to me that I was borderline diabetic. I felt that I could help others achieve their fitness goals with my story. If I inspire one person to change their life to a healthier one, than I am more than content. Top 5 tips that women can use to take charge of their personal health Go to the doctor! Get regular check-ups. Always listen to your body. If something feels off, it probably is. Be the best and healthiest YOU! Inspire others around you to do the same. Share your story. Don’t be shy! Someone will always benefit from your story. We know you work a lot with survivors through your Survivor Bootcamp, how does fitness help survivors in the recovery process? A stronger, healthier YOU physically and mentally will help keep your mind and body in good shape through diagnoses, the process of eliminating the disease and, recovery. Plus staying active releases endorphins and endorphins make you happy, why not use fitness as part of this process? You’re also a huge advocate for recognizing the mental toll physical illness can have on victims – can you tell us a little bit more? My experience with cancer is different than others. I was diagnosed at an early enough stage that I was able to have the cancerous cells removed before they spread. Because of this, I did not have to undergo any radiation or chemo. I went to the doctor, had the diagnoses, heard the word ‘cancer’ and died that day. I experienced fear of the unknown, fear of leaving those I loved behind, especially my children. How would they live? Who would teach them life lessons? Who else would love them like me? Why? Why me? I experienced moments of anxiety, depression and suicidal thoughts Not having any side effects of treatment (ie. Hair loss, weight loss, etc.), those around me did not see my body physically deteriorating and because of this, my support was almost non –existent. I felt alone. My purpose is to now spread awareness of the mental struggle that individuals face, even though they may not have any physical symptoms. Cancer is cancer, physical symptoms or not. We all need support. Be there!   What’s your favorite personal fitness routine? Favorite one to teach? I love boxing! It is my favorite to coach and to participate in! Favorite exercise: anyone who knows me, knows it’s a burpee! Why? The benefits of a full body workout in one exercise  Active wear can help or hinder you in the ring -- what do you look for in your active wear at the gym? I look for anything that stays in place. Something that doesn’t slip or that I need to keep adjusting. It has to be comfortable and allow me to move with ease. What’s the most rewarding aspect of working in your community? The most challenging? Inspiring others to become the best versions of themselves, for themselves and for those around them. I love what I do and I am blessed to be doing it daily. I am inspired by members in my community every moment I am teaching. They gave me strength during my recovery process by simply being around me as my fitness family. The most challenging aspect is learning how to not be a perfectionist. I need to learn that we all make mistakes and its okay to be human and mess up while coaching at times. What’s your motto/mantra? It’s YOU vs. YOU! YOU are the only one to stand in your way! Get out of your way and see the greatness that is truly YOU!   KEEP UP WITH MARIELA HERE SHOP THE HOPE COLLECTION HERE

TITIKAxME | Carrie Schechter

Kicking butt and taking names, Carrie Schechter is New York City’s very own multitalented badass. From teaching kickboxing at her studio Rise Brooklyn to taking editorial quality pics as a pro photographer, this T-Girl is the literal definition of Versatile. Active. Life.  TITIKA has partnered with Carrie over the months and we think she’s pretty great – you will too! Creator of RISE Brooklyn Fitness, Carrie is known for her non-stop, heart pumping, one-of-a-kind classes. Carrie's background in fitness, wellness and nutrition helps her students live a healthy lifestyle in every way she can. About to launch her own fitness channel, there are huge things on the horizon for her and all those that want to join her to get fit. When not in the dojo or gym, Carrie spends her time as a photographer specializing in celebrity, fitness and advertising portraiture. It is about embracing a healthy lifestyle—Mind, Body and Spirit.   You might be the busiest person on the planet, can you describe a “typical” day in your life? A typical day for me starts at 3:50am. I hit snooze a few times, eat breakfast, get some emails done, and pick my posts for social media for the day. I open my program Rise Brooklyn Fitness at 5:45am and teach 4 hours back to back, kickboxing, muay thai and boot camp. Usually 1 day a week I do some fitness modeling, otherwise it’s the business end of Rise or shooting celebs or models. By around 5/6pm I’m back in leggings and headed to the gym to teach more kickboxing and get some Muay Thai training in. I’m home round 10/11 at night, get a quick catnap around 12-3:50 — and I do it all over again. You’re dead longer than you’re alive so I don’t really sleep much, I want to enjoy every second I have on this planet.   What has been the most rewarding moment as a kickboxing instructor? Seeing students do things they either didn't think they could do or couldn't do a week ago fills my heart with joy. Watching them stand up taller, have confidence, ask for that raise, quit that job, run that marathon, fit into those pants from a few years ago, reach their goals, seeing them glow. I love seeing them succeed. That joy that they feel — is everything. Also I don’t want people to be victims, I want them to know how to defend themselves or their family/friends if need be.   What are your favorite TITIKA items to wear when sparring and training? The bras are by far my favorite - I don’t even know if I can pick just one. TITIKA bras hold me in place AND keep my shape (honestly I feel they enhance my shape), I feel sexy and confident. I receive compliments everywhere I go. And I’ve made some new friends since I can’t even walk down the street without people stopping me to ask about my outfits!   You live life at full blast, which three songs get you through your workouts? This is a toughie, my boyfriend is a DJ so I pretty much just play his mixes. They’re ridiculously heart pumping. I’d say Don’t Let Me Down - remix of chain smokers with Konshens. Buju Banton - Champion.  Anything Vybz Kartel usually gets them jumping as well.   Whether you’re in a super populated city or tiny town, it’s so important for all women to know how to protect themselves. Can you share two vital self-defense tips that women should know? In my opinion most importantly remember these 3 words - Hard To Soft You’re elbows are the strongest bone in your body, your fists, knees, shins, all hard — hit the person in their soft areas: groin, eyes, nose, throat, knees. Don’t stop — keep pinching, kicking, hitting, elbowing until you get away. Scream FIRE, not “help”. I have friends that have called 911 in Brooklyn at night when they heard a woman screaming and 911 told them to call back if it continued and sent no one. But when you yell FIRE, people are worried about themselves about their belongings, people will look out a window and 911 will dispatch help immediately. At TITIKA we believe in living your most Versatile. Active. Life. What’s your motto? Don’t downgrade your dream just to fit your reality. Upgrade your conviction to match your destiny. (Not sure who said that but I love it) Anything and everything is possible.   Lastly, what do you want for yourself in 5 years’ time? I expect the channel to be doing very well in 5 years and I see a lot of travel doing workshops and also trying different fighting & fitness styles around the world while wearing awesome Titika outfits. I am excited to be able to connect to so many people. I see it branching off in many directions and I’m excited for the mystery and adventure that’s starting. Although I choose a direction and set goals, I’ve always lived by the gypsy code for the most part. The only plan is no plan. Life is more spontaneous when we're less attached to its outcomes. No limits.   Stay in the loop with Carrie https://www.instagram.com/carrieschechter/ https://www.instagram.com/carriesfitlab/ https://www.facebook.com/carriesfitlab/ https://www.facebook.com/Risebrooklyn/

TITIKAxME | Adele Cavaliere - Nutrition + Fitness Expert

Toronto based nutritionist, fitness expert, published author and mother Adele Cavaliere (quite literally!) does it all. We’ve teamed up with Adele to provide ongoing nutrition, fitness and wellness information to keep you on top of your game. Get to know how Adele lives her most Versatile. Active. Life. ever.   Meet Adele Cavaliere - TITIKA's new Nutrition and Fitness Expert: Adele Cavaliere is a Nutritionist, published author of the book, “21 Days to Detoxify Your Life,” is an elite fitness trainer, yoga instructor and founder of Nutri-School. Adele has worked with countless people empowering them to transform their lives, their bodies and their careers! Adele has worked with celebrities, pro-athletes and her success stories have been featured in Cosmopolitan, Shape, Fitness RX and more!   Your personal journey is a testament to how fitness and nutrition can completely change someone’s life. What is the most rewarding part of being a certified life coach for others on the same path? Being a life coach is about empowering others in making the most of their lives. Mentorship as I see it can be the ultimate coach that will guide and motivate someone through the hustle and grind! I’ve seen it in my own life. While I had to put in the work, my mentors and coaches helped me find the necessary confidence to ascend to new heights. Highly successful people we read about today had mentors in the past and the tutelage of others got them where they are now. I believe successful people have a responsibility to relay their knowledge to others and, quite literally, change the world.   Who is the most memorable client you have worked with and why? Hired by Muscletech as their lead Diet and Fitness Associate – I worked with many women who wanted to change their life through health and wellness. Stacy lost 93lbs working with me. Stacy never thought she would lose the weight yet alone being featured in national magazines and photo shoots! So many times Stacy wanted to give up and throw in the towel. Witnessing her pushing her own limits, her boundaries and moving past her fears was an amazing experience for me. I learned a lot about what it meant to be a successful weight loss coach. I learned how to see beyond a person’s “story” and help them tap into what they are really capable of when someone believes in them.   What are three changes our T-Girls can make right now for better health and overall balance? Create a morning ritual! The morning routine literally creates the tone for the remainder of your day. No matter how terrible yesterday was or how much you have to do today, the morning routine is your daily constant. Whether you dedicate this time to working out, yoga, meditation, sipping on herbal tea or taking a walk - it’s essentially the time you allocate towards yourself, every day, no matter what. Focus on gratitude! The same effort that goes into eating healthy and staying active should also be directed towards positive thinking. Research shows a healthy positive attitude helps build a healthier immune system and boosts overall health. Your body believes what you think, so focus on the positive. Go Green! Add a serving of vegetables to each meal. Our new green best friends tend to be among the most nutrient dense of foods, meaning they have the most nutrition value per calorie. They fill you up faster and supply your body with vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. Try to get a variety of veggies in your diet, and make sure to include leafy greens like rapini, kale, spinach and asparagus.   At TITIKA we prioritize versatility and function in all of our items. How important is versatility in your own life? Change has always been and will always be a recurring theme in my life. Because of it, I have learned from an early age that a grateful attitude and open mind can help me succeed in any situation. Versatility exposes new ideas, which excites me because it means it is an opportunity to improve myself. As a mother, and through my career - I want my children, clients and students to be inspired to try new things and challenge their limitations. When people are excited about improving their own lives, it makes for a much more valuable and memorable experience!   Which health practice/ritual do you do every day that more women should know about? Over the last few years, I have placed a lot of effort to be as natural as possible when it comes to my beauty and home cleaning practice. Did you know that the average person smears, lathers, rubs and sprays, 10-20 different skin care products on his or her body every day--and since our skin acts more like a sponge than a barrier, we absorb the nearly 130 chemicals we regularly expose ourselves to. Cosmetics companies and the FDA maintain that these chemicals are safe, and many of them are--in small doses at least. But consider that the average woman wears makeup every day, and you begin to understand how a little dab here a quick spray there begins to add up. The fact is, no one really knows how certain chemicals affect us over time, or how they react in our bodies in combination. There are now over 56 chemical free brands – so there really is no excuse more than ever to go chemical free! It doesn’t just start from what you put on your skin…take some time and research the products you are using to clean your home or wash your clothes. Chances are, these products are just as toxic and create a chemical toxic environment!   TITIKA has recently launched three new collections: Active, Go-To and Black. Which one’s your favorite and why? I live and breathe in my workout gear – literally! I need a workout ensemble that will translate from the gym to the office to the just about anywhere! I want to feel confident, stylish and hugged in all the right places when I wear my workout gear. The TITIKA Active line gives me everything I want and more in a couture one-of-a kind look that yells FABULOUS! From graphic crops to zip up jackets to training leggings with unique style – this line by far is my closet go to!   Lastly, what are you looking forward to the most as TITIKA’s new Fitness and Nutrition Expert? Healthy eating and exercise changed my life. I went from being very overweight and unhappy in many areas of my life to ultimately creating a life and business that I am incredibly proud of. Throughout my own weight loss transformation – exercise became my drive, my outlet, my motivation and my personal power. Nutrition and fitness are my life’s passion – and changing the way you eat and move can create opportunities and open doors you never thought possible. I love motivating and inspiring others to live their best possible life – I am excited to share my knowledge and experiences with a community of women who are all about looking and feeling ah-mazing from the inside-out!
